Overview

The Animal Control Department is responsible for enforcing the regulations under City Ordinance 925 and maintaining the Walsenburg Animal Shelter. The Animal Control Officer only operates within the confines of City Limits.

The Walsenburg Animal Shelter is an impound facility and as such does not take owner surrenders. As there are no city ordinances regulating cats, the facility only handles dogs. The Animal Control Department is responsible for proper care of dogs and maintenance of the Shelter, in keeping with the standards set by PACFA.

The Animal Control Officer is also charged with assisting Code Enforcement under City Ordinance 1022 & 1042, concerning unsightly premises, rubbish, trash, weeds &, grass over 8 inches high.

Please Note: If you see a dog running at large and can safely do so, please take a picture and text it to 719 491-2885 or 719 890-0774 with the time and location.
