ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers and enforces building related codes in an accurate and efficient manner, including the International Building Code, the International Residential Code, the International Energy Conservation Code, the International Mechanical Code, the International Fire Code the Uniform Abatement of Dangerous Buildings Code, and other local codes such as those relating to sprinkling, nuisance, floodplain, clearing, grading, filling, and zoning.
- Performs the required building inspections associated with new building construction, redevelopment or remodeling of older structures.
- Performs on-site inspections of footings, foundations, and framing.
- Examines general framing and structure of buildings to insure that required setbacks are met, corners are tied in place, trusses are tied down and set at proper distances, floor joists are set at right distances and proper spans, bridging is put up and in place, and that the general quality and grade of lumber used in construction is standard, etc.
- Administers the permitting function, including application processing, fee assessment and collection, permit issuance, and keeping records in the City’s permitting software program.
- Routes and tracks building permit applications and certificate of occupancy applications through the review and approval of City Department Heads and the City Administrator.
- Maintains records of building and inspection activity and completes related reports.
- Issues Certificates of Occupancy and permits in accordance with City-adopted codes and policies.
- Assists in researching problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings, building construction and code compliance.
- Responds to complex and sensitive building issues and customer service issues and maintains records of such.
- Coordinates with State plumbing and electrical inspectors.
- Keeps up to date with technical and innovative developments from the International Code Council and in the field of building construction.
