City Wards

The City of Walsenburg is divided into three City Wards as required by Colorado Revised Statutes 31-4-104 and defined by Ordinance No. 1059.

Each Ward is represented by two Councilpersons, elected to 4 year staggered terms.

Ward Descriptions

Ward One is bounded on the west, north and east by the city of Walsenburg boundary. The Ward One southern boundary commences at the intersection of the west boundary of the city and the naturally occurring hogback, thence east along the hogback to the center line of Walsen Avenue, thence southeast on the center line of Walsen Avenue to its termination point, thence southeast along the center line of Main Street to the BNSF railway thence northeast on the center line of the BNSF railway to the eastern boundary of the City.

Ward Three consist of all of the city of Walsenburg lying southeast of a line commencing at the intersection of the west boundary of the city and the BNSF railway thence north east along the center line of the BNSF railway to the intersection of the railway and the eastern boundary of the city of Walsenburg.

Ordinance No. 1059-An Ordinance Changing The Boundaries Of The City Of Walsenburg Wards And Reducing The Number Of Wards From 4 To 3

Colorado Revised Statutes 31-4-104 -Wards

Every city shall be divided by the city council into wards, and such wards shall be numbered consecutively beginning with the number one. The boundaries of said wards shall not be changed more often than once in six years, unless change is necessary to conform to constitutional apportionment requirements. Territory added to the city shall become a part of such ward or wards as may be determined by ordinance, but this shall not prevent apportionment to conform to constitutional requirements. The boundaries and number of wards shall be changed only by majority vote of all members elected to the governing body.
