Lathrop State Park is nestled among the pinions and junipers in the foothills west of Walsenburg features camping andhas lakes for swimming, boating, windsurfing, and fishing.Beautiful electric campsites with showers and restrooms are available, as well as primitive sites. Martin Lake swim beach, a paved walking path, the Hogback Trail, a playground and amphitheatre are just some of the many things to enjoy at this beautiful park.

The San Isabel National Forest is south and west of Walsenburg, including the Spanish Peaks Wilderness Area and the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Area. North of town Greenhorn Mountain Wilderness Area and most of the Wet Mountainsare also part of the National Forest.
