At the November 8, 2016 Regular Election the voters of Walsenburg determined that the City of Walsenburg should be required to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with Huerfano County requiring the Sheriff "to provide any and all reasonable and necessary law enforcement services within the municipal boundaries. The ballot issue required this change to take place on January 1, 2017.
The Walsenburg Police Department was subsequently dissolved and the enforcement of criminal violations within the City limits is conducted by the Huerfano County Sheriff's Office pursuant to a Law Enforcement IGA.
